SilverPlug® is made of polymer containing SILVER ZEOLITE, a natural antibacterial which drastically reduces the percentage of anaerobic pathogens inside the implant prosthetic tunnel, thus reducing the risk of peri-implantitis.
Following prosthetic rehabilitation of dental implants, the abutment screw access chamber is usually plugged up using several different types of materials like teflon tape, cotton pellets, gutta-percha or wax. These techniques do not permit the antibacterial sealing of the access hole, resulting in a bacterial growth and foul odour in the internal parts of the implant (Rimondini et al. 2001, Park et al. 2012, Gross et al. 1999, Al-Omari et al. 2010).
Quirynen and van Steenberghe (1993) observed the presence of a significant quantity of microorganisms in the apical part of the abutment screw and claimed the microbial leakage at the abutment fixture interface as the most probable origin of a bacterial contamination.
In a further study Quirynen et al. (1994) proved the existence of bacterial leakage along the components of the Brånemark implant system, both at A-I interface and from the access hole of the abutment. Hermannet al. (2001) and Broggini et al. (2003) suggested that bacterial leakage at the level of alveolar bone was one of the most important causes of chronic inflammation and marginal bone resorption around two-piece implants.
SilverPlug® is the ONLY worldwide patented, registered and certified specific Active Sealant for the implant tunnel.
SilverPlug® is a Class IIA medical device made of a polymer containing SILVER ZEOLITE, a natural antibacterial. It does not release any silver in the body.
The antibacterial action of silver helps to eliminate the inflammation around the implant, which usually occurs after loading and is the main cause of bone loss.
• Helps reduce the risk of peri-implantitis
